WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
Increasing landholder concerns about legal liability issues, workplace health and safety requirements as well as changing attitudes to hunting prompted the formation of the Australian Pig Dogging and Hunters Association Inc, (the APDHA) in 2005. As the name suggests, APDHA represents responsible and ethical hunters of all persuasions, but with an emphasis on those using well-trained hunting dogs for feral pig control
SHINE A LIGHT ON OUR RESEARCH LIBRARY
Our members finance the APDHA Research Unit which works to gather, collate and develop research relevant to pig hunting with dogs to underline the historic, economic and environmental relevance of our culture to Australia and the world.

Hunters remove 5.5 million plus pigs from Australian landscape in 2024
The APDHA's Great Australian Pig Hunt is done and dusted. It's been a massive success and the final report will be available this month, January 2025. What we already know, however, is the data collection indicated Australian pig hunters killed more than 5.5 million pigs in 2024 debunking claims that hunters achieved nothing in terms of pig control.
An outstanding effort. More to come in this...
WHY JOIN THE APDHA?
AUSTRALIA-WIDE HUNTERS' INSURANCE
APDHA members opting for full hunting membership carry a $20 million Public Liability Insurance cover which protects landholders and managers from any damage that might be caused during legal hunting anywhere in Australia. Hunting members also carry a $2 million Personal Accident Insurance policy and anything that happens to them while hunting legally anywhere in Australia.
PUBLIC LAND HUNTING (NSW and NT)
The APDHA is an Approved Hunting Organisation under NSW hunting law which makes members eligible to apply for the NSW Restricted Game Hunting Licence that allows legal hunting on certain public land in the State. Members also have approved access to certain Northern Territory National Parks as part of the NT's pest management program. Conditions apply to all access.
PERMISSION TO HUNT BOOKLET
Members can access a Permission to Hunt booklet which records landholder details, conditions of access being granted (including expiry date, method of hunting, etc) and hunter details. This booklet helps legal hunters and law enforcement agencies communicate quickly about access and further isolate and identify illegal hunters in the hunting community.
